The Lantern Man

Synopsis: Halloween is coming, and the Lantern Man haunts Plumfield. - PAX

Nan, Nat and Tommy seek the grave of the legendary ghost, the Lantern Man. - TV Guide

As Halloween approaches, visions of ghosts and ghouls get the better of the children at Plumfield, and their ordinary level-headed teacher, Jo. When a well-dressed but strange-looking man arrives at Plumfield, explaining that he is dying of cancer and seeking Jo's help in writing the story of his life, Jo is flattered by the offer; at the same time, however, she is unsettled by his ghastly countenance and raspy voice. Putting aside her fears, she embarks upon the project. Meanwhile, Laurie tells the Plumfield children about the legend of "The Lantern Man", a hideous-looking outcast whose ghost is reputed to roam the streets of Concord when Halloween falls on a blue moon. While Nan, Nat and Tommy set out to find The Lantern Man's unmarked grave and appease his restless spirit, Jo discovers that childish fears can overwhelm the judgement and compassion of even the most responsible adults. - CTV

Favorite Quote(s):

Jo: Well what do you mean you didn't like it? Pride and Predjudice is a wonderful novel. I thought you'd love it.
Nan: It was boring and on and on.
Jo: Well, what about you Nat?
Nat: Well, . . . Mrs. Jo, it's kind of slow in some parts.
Nan: Yeah, like from beginning to end.

Tommy: What do you think about this mask?
Nan: You look scarier without it.

Nick: Max! It's a scarecrow! . . I'm getting tired of finding body parts all over Plumfield.

Reson For Rating: I love this episode! When I first watched it, I got freaked out at some points during the show! (Just so you know, I don't watch horror movies. They're too scary!) Yet at the same time, you had everything that makes this show great. Romance, Drama, Friendship, and a good moral. :) It has become my favorite Halloween movie!
