The Weaker S*x

Synopsis: Jo becomes a suffragist; Dr. Pierce urges Nan to become a nurse. - TV Guide

The approaching Presidential election spurs Jo to start a Concord branch of the National Woman's Suffrage Association, feeling that if women had the right to vote, they would be perceived as equals. Her efforts to rally support for the suffrage movement brings her into conflict, not only with the residents of Concord, but with her friends and family too. At the same time, Nan's interest in becoming a doctor increases, but she encounters resistance when, while volunteering to assist Dr. Pierce in his clinic, he encourages her to become a nurse instead, citing that the demands of a physician's life are unsuited to the delicate constitution of women. Meanwhile, Meg experiences heartache of a different kind when Edward pressures her to uproot her family and join him in New York. Jo, Nam and Meg must face their challenges and, at the risk of great sacrifices, find a way to make their voices heard in a "man's world." - CTV

Reson For Rating: I'm a bit of a feminist at heart (not one of those freaky kind, just someone who believes in equal rights), so this episode was really interesting to me. I've heard stories about women who tried to vote and weren't allowed to, but it wasn't until this episode that I really thought about what that might have been like for them. It definitely deserves (at least) 4 stars!
